Bim Afolami MP Chaired the latest PRASEG & ECIU Road to Glasgow dialogue. We looked at the Least Developed Countries - the group of nations across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean & the Pacific with high exposure to the impacts of climate change and significant economic vulnerability.

We held a timely discussion about the role of Pumped Storage in grid stability during the energy transition, with a special presentation David Ball, Development Director from Drax about their plans to expand Cruachan 2. With expert commentary from Dr Doug Parr, Chief Scientist & Policy Director at Greenpeace, and input from Alan Brown MP, the SNP's Energy & Climate Change Spokesperson in Westminster, and Jinni Minto MSP, the Scottish Parliamentary Representative for Argyll and Bute.

PRASEG AGM

PRASEG held it's AGM on 19 May 2021 at 11am.  This was a formal meeting required by the House of Commons authorities to confirm officers and sustain the group into the next year, attended by members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Bim Afolami MP (Conservative) was re-elected as Chair.

May's one-stop shop for parliamentarians, media, industry, civil society and academia focused on progress towards Net Zero and plans for COP26.  Bim Afolami MP led an hour with Lord Deben, Chair of the Committee on Climate Change, covering issues from the 6th Carbon Budget and the Treasury to Skills, Planning, COP26 and the government's legislative programme.

PRASEG and the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit held another Road to Glasgow briefing - this time looking at the EU's diplomatic position and strategy ahead of COP26.

Ahead of the first COP since Brexit, we heard from a strong panel of advisers and analysts, including a lead climate negotiator for the EU, along with a number of MPs.

PRASEG is working with Lord Deben, Chair of the Committee on Climate Change, on an online briefing series to offer you an easy way to check the government against its progress on Net Zero, the energy transition and preparations for COP26. 

Lord Deben discussed the Cumbria coal mine development, energy efficiency and the Green Homes Grant, and looked ahead to the 2021 Budget.

PRASEG held a high level cross-party dialogue on women in climate diplomacy for International Women's Day. 

Amber Rudd and Lisa Nandy joined Caroline Lucas put the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women in the spotlight. They explored the critical role women played in delivering the Paris Agreement, examined the role for women in UK's Presidency of COP26, and shared a vision for women at the heart of a new, more effective multilateralism.  Click to watch back.

Hydrogen Summit

PRASEG hosted the Energy Networks Association Hyrdogen Summit on Tuesday 23 February 

Remarks from Matt Hingle, Head of Gas at ENA, and Bim Afolami MP, Chair of PRASEG, followed by panel discussions on community benefits of decarbonising gas and the role of energy networks in building the hydrogen economy.  Panellists included Angela Needle (Cadent Gas), Tim Harwood (Northern Gas Networks), Martyn Bridges (Worcester Bosch), Dr Fiona Fylan (Leeds Becket University) & Chris Train (ENA Green Gas Champion).  Previews the publication of the Hydrogen Strategy.
